Bill Ellzey: Pink magnolia was a casualty of the Mardi Gras freeze
Bill Ellzey
The weather has certainly warmed up, but it has not brought back the lovely blossoms on my pink magnolia which had nearly reached its peak display at Mardi Gras.
The earliest blossoms were shedding their petals, still pink/white, blanketing the yard around the tree, while new buds and blossoms were opening.
The deep chill turned all that pink to an ugly brown. And the brown petals cling to the tree, with only a handful of buds surviving and opening into whole pink blossoms.
I m left with a patch of ugly, some 15 feet wide by 15 feet tall. Depressing.
