Get your cozy on during dark, cold days of winter

Get your cozy on during dark, cold days of winter Gretta Monahan © Provided by Boston Herald Hygge-friendly hot chocolate (Hillary Levin/St. Louis Post-Dispatch/TNS) The Danish love of leaning into coziness in winter is known as hygge (pronounced hue-gah), and it’s how the Danes who are consistently ranked as one of the happiest cultures on the planet get through their darkest, coldest season. Though the concept defines Denmark, it extends across all of Scandinavia, and these days it’s starting to hit its stride in America, too. The term means “to comfort,” and the practice more than lives up to its definition: cozy contentment. A cup of steaming hot chocolate on a snowy day. A soft, heavy-knit scarf or sweater after a chilly ice skate. A game of chess with a juicy Cab and candles. A movie with family (or your favorite pet) snuggled under a cushy blanket. All of the above define hygge at its best.
