Ben Lawson, Turia Pitt and Kirsty Everett: My favourite summer memory

Credit:Courtesy of Ben Lawson Ben Lawson, actor and author of To My Country I was nine years old when my father took me and three of my brothers to a small town bordering Carnarvon National Park for Easter. To save you a google, Carnarvon is deep in country QLD, about seven hours inland from Bundaberg. A patient of my dad’s lived out there – a helicopter muster pilot. My dad, being one of only a handful of aviation medical examiners in the state, often had pilots come to see him from all over; this particular patient had obviously sold my dad on the beauty and grandeur of his cattle station in middle-of-nowhere Queensland and tickety boo, that was Easter sorted. My parents were not long divorced and no doubt my dad was surprised and maybe a little pleased with himself at what little organisation a family trip actually took.
