The awards are given annually by the WSU MLK Program. Recipients will be honored during the WSU Black Excellence Dinner at 5 p.m., April 29, in the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center on the Pullman campus and will be livestreamed.
Biology’s Jenny Zambrano and College of Education doctoral student James Asare are the first Cougs to receive two new systemwide awards acknowledging contributions to social justice.
Fox Sports analyst and bestselling author Emmanuel Acho will urge Cougs to engage in uncomfortable conversations around race during his Martin Luther King Jr. celebration keynote address on Feb. 2.

The ceremony was held virtually as a drive-thru celebration for not only the medical students, but also students graduating with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in the College of Medicine’s Nutrition & Exercise Physiology and Speech & Hearing programs.
More than 100 students drove through the event, celebrating their hard work with family and friends, especially after a bleak year with the pandemic.
