MARY ROSSI: 1925–2021
Mary Rossi, who was not just one of the first female comperes on Australian television and the doyenne of Australian travel agents but also the mother of 10, has died at the age of 95. With her equally remarkable husband, Theo, they proved a charismatic, much-admired double-act in a union that spanned 63 years.
The eldest of six children of Jack McCabe and Hazel Attwood, Mary Cecil McCabe grew up in Bronte, Castle Hill and Harris Park before settling at Coogee. Jack’s family were prosperous leather-makers who enjoyed the logo “Wear Niccol’s leather and Save Your Soles”. The Poor Clares, the Sisters of Mercy and the Brigidine Order shaped and ensured a model Catholic life.
