Sister Celeste Ciesielka | News, Sports, Jobs

Ciesielka Sister Celeste Ciesielka, 64, a member of the Carmelite Community of the Word, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, after a struggle with COVID-19. She is mourned by her mother, Leona; and her sister, Gerry, as well as her Sisters in the CCW community. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry, and her Sisters in community: Sister Mary Gainino, Sister Maryann Palko and Sister Marjorie Monahan. Sister Celeste spent her life in service to others throughout the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. She ministered in roles of pastoral ministry and pastoral education in numerous locations and served in spiritual director roles for Cursillo and Third Order Carmelites. She functioned as a caseworker for Catholic Charities and as hospital chaplain in Altoona. Her most recent ministry brought her to her home parish in Portage, where she visited the sick as a pastoral minister. She volunteered her service to others in various other capacities. By Catherine Wan Not even the pandemic could hinder the Carmelite community from celebrating their triple joys on the occasion of the Feast of St John of the Cross Dec 14. Joining Archbishop John Wong, who presided the Mass, were Carmelite chaplain Fr Mattheus Luta, Fr Cosmas Lee, Fr David Sham and 30 other members of the Carmelite community.
