Deep drought persists in New Mexico

All of New Mexico is experiencing some level of drought, according to the latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The last time the state was entirely in drought in mid-December was in 2012. ...................... About 53% of the state is in “exceptional drought” status, the most severe level of drought. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an emergency drought declaration earlier this month in response to the extremely dry conditions. The declaration notes that drought increases the risk of other natural disasters like wildfires and post-fire flooding.
