Victims of a fraud that involved former state Sen. Carlos Uresti will receive at least $171,000 from the proceeds of the sale of a Shavano Park estate that had been owned by his co-defendant.
The restitution is part of a settlement reached in a long-running dispute over proceeds from the sale of the house at 414 Bentley Manor. The house had been owned by Gary Cain, who was convicted with Uresti by a federal jury in 2018.

There was a large field of candidates vying to represent San Antonio s largest City Council district, which spans 84 square miles spread out on the South and Southeast sides of the San Antonio.
Twelve people ran for the District 3 seat and two will now go head-to-head in the June runoff Phyllis Viagran and Tomás Uresti.
The district s current representative Rebecca Viagran is not among them, as she has reached the four-term maximum on City Council and cannot run again. But her sister Phyllis received about 22% of the May primary vote, and Uresti followed with nearly 15%.
Viagran has worked as a community outreach coordinator and trainer for Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) since being furloughed from Visit San Antonio in June 2020. She has served on the boards of both Brooks Gives Back and The Rape Crisis Center in San Antonio.

San Antonio City Council District 3 runoff features familiar South Side names
SAN ANTONIO – District 3 voters in San Antonio will have two familiar names to choose from for their next representative on the city council.
The current councilwoman, Rebecca Viagran, has reached her four-term limit, leaving the seat open. Competing to replace her on the council is her sister, Phyllis Viagran, and Tomas Uresti, a former Harlandale ISD school board trustee and state representative for District 118.
For her part, Phyllis Viagran said she had never really planned to run for office. However, seeing the progress her sister made and the commitment of both her and the other five women on city council inspired her.
