In 2009, business leaders formed Accelerate, the Greenville Chamber’s private sector fueled economic development initiative, as the conduit through which much of today’s transformative, economic development work is done. This summer, Accelerate unveiled its new direction in its pursuit of “Growing a Greater Greenville.” New to the program’s list of priorities is increasing educational attainment for working adults ages 25-64. Increasing education attainment will be the foundation of Accelerate’s work by implementing a Lumina Foundation-informed initiative to ensure that 60% of 25 to 64-year-olds have a high-quality, post-secondary credential or degree.

By Liv Osby The first doses of Covid-19 vaccine were being administered in Greenville County and at Lexington Medical Center on Tuesday amid a background of rising cases and hospitalizations that are straining hospital resources.  Dr. Saria Saccocio, ambulatory chief medical officer and leader of the Covid-19 Vaccination Task Force with Prisma Health, said the hospital system was approved for nearly 10,000 doses in the initial distribution, and that vaccinations were to start Tuesday morning. “We are thrilled,” she said during a forum on the vaccine hosted by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce for community leaders. “We can’t wait to give the shot in the arms of our health

Greenville Chamber releases policy agenda

Share The agenda, developed from responses to a fall survey and dozens of meetings with Upstate business leaders, focuses on ongoing COVID-19 liability reform, workforce barriers and broadband access policy, among other issues. “The business community spoke strongly in 2020 and we scored a number of major policy victories,” Carlos Phillips, Greenville Chamber president and CEO, said in a news release. “The Upstate Chamber Coalition’s successes set up our region to recover quickly from the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to building on our successes as we provide key assistance to businesses struggling to recover while keeping our sights on our opportunities to build a better, stronger, more inclusive community.”
