LUMBERTON A Lumberton man who was convicted in the 2003 killing of his 6-year-old niece was arrested Thursday in the death of a man found unresponsive last week, according to a news release from the Lumberton Police Department.
Carlos Gay, 43, is charged with first-degree murder and common law robbery in the death of Duwan Curtis Baldwin, the release states.
Baldwin’s obituary says he was 33 and from Fairmont.
Gay’s arrest came after officers found Baldwin dead on the afternoon of April 22 at a Winona Avenue duplex. Gay lived in the neighboring unit. Police did not list a cause of death.

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WMBF) â A death investigation in Lumberton has led to one manâs arrest for murder.
According to information from the Lumberton Police Department, officers were called to a residence off Winona Avenue on April 22 for an unresponsive person. When they arrived, they said they found Duwan Curtis Baldwin, of Lumberton, deceased.
While investigating, investigators said they received information about suspicious circumstances surrounding Baldwinâs death.
