TAAVA hosting chicken BBQ drive-thru
The Taunton Area Vietnam Veterans Association will be hosting a chicken BBQ event on Saturday, May 22, at 5 p.m. The event will be drive-thru only, at the pavilion behind Dighton Town Hall and is a scholarship fundraiser. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by contacting Tony Rosario at 508-669-6877.

World Portuguese Language Day
Bristol Community College is hosting a virtual celebration of World Portuguese Language Day on Thursday, May 6, beginning at 9 a.m., on Zoom. The event is free and open to all.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Last week, in a surprise ruling, a Brazilian Supreme Court judge quashed all corruption convictions against former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, restoring his political rights and opening the door to a possible 2022 presidential run.
Lula, the 75-year-old leftist leader from the Workers’ Party (PT), has not yet confirmed whether he intends to run next year, but he and his defence team view the judge’s ruling as a testament to his innocence.
In an address to the nation on Wednesday, Lula described the sprawling anti-corruption scheme in which he was convicted as “the biggest judicial lie told in 500 years of Brazilian history”.
She had died recently of COVID-19, in a nursing home.

Two officers shot near Dallas
Two officers were shot in Texas after responding to a call Thursday about a shooting in a Dallas suburb, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia tweeted Thursday.
The shooting occurred about 12:30 p.m. ET, police said.
“At this time we know that at least one officer was injured in the incident and has been transported to a local hospital and being treated for his injuries,” Dallas police spokesperson Officer Carlos Almeida told CNN.
Police tweeted that the officers are in stable condition.
The Dallas Police Department SWAT squad is responding to the active situation.
