Opinion: Cumbria celebrities on Harry and Meghan s interview with Oprah

(Twitter/@IndiaWilloughby) Carlisle broadcaster, journalist and reality television star, India Willoughby, has had a lot to say on the Meghan and Harry interview. She disagrees with the former royals’ decision to speak out against the royal family. Yesterday, she tweeted: “Sickens me how card players like Meghan cynically use victimhood. Plenty in the trans world too. Any criticism: racist, transphobic, whatever. Grifters. You’re being played. Been to dark places at times in my life. None of this rings true. Just seen the promo for Oprah’s imminent interview with the Duchess of Sussed-it and His Royal Hostage. Ye Gods. Like a trailer for the Real Housewives! Poundland Diana. And all while poor Phil is in hospital. Dreadful couple. But especially #Meghan#Harry

Carlisle’s Helen Skelton seems to have compassion for the royals. She replied to a tweet from journalist and presenter, Dan Walker, which read: “It’s hard to see how any reputations are going to be enhanced by what is happening at the moment. “The build-up, the interview & the fall out will probably only harden opinions on all sides. Anyone else think it’s a pity it couldn’t have been resolved in private?” Agree. I want to get them all round my kitchen table with tea and cake until they hug it out. #familyfirsthttps://t.co/71AHaWsSeL Helen Skelton (@HelenSkelton) March 4, 2021

Carlisle’s Helen Skelton has experienced an extensive career. She has appeared on Blue Peter, Channel 5’s On The Farm and BBC’s Countryfile to name a few. The 37-year-old has also take part in numerous charity events and challenges. To raise money for Sport Relief, she kayaked the Amazon River breaking two Guinness World Records along the way – the longest solo journey by kayak, and the longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman. Skelton also climbed new heights (quite literally) after she walked a 150-metre tightrope over Battersea Power Station for Comic Relief in 2011. In 2012, she became the first woman to reach the North Pole using a bicycle for the charity.
