A one-page letter was the last straw for Dr. Marlys Misfeldt.
The Saskatoon family doctor said she is “livid” about a frustrating pattern of patient referrals she makes to psychiatry being rejected more and more regularly in recent months, sometimes with short, unsigned letters that don’t address why the referral was refused.

The most recent letter said “The specialist has decided this referral is not required and has cancelled this referral,” but did not say why the decision was made or what Misfeldt might try to keep her patient alive.
