Now, three proud Palmy lads are ready to don their kilts and line up against their fellow big boys in a rural rumble for the Southern Hemisphere Highlander Champion crown. Born-and-bred in Palmerston North and with illustrious backgrounds in athletics, Strongman and Highland Games field events, Adam Miller, Callum McConachy and Carl Waitoa will represent Palmerston North and face off against each other and their national rivals for the second year in a row at the New Zealand Rural Games Highland heavies event on Sunday.

The overall men’s winner on the day was Adam Miller, who won the New Zealand Rural Games competition in March, with Hinewai Anderson taking out the women’s section. The band winners for the set competition were the Manawatū Scottish No 1 in grade 1, Hamilton Caledonian Society in grade 2, City of Tauranga in grade 3 and Papakura in grade 4.
