A little bit about her publications, which are multiple awardwinning, her most recent book is bound in wedlock slave and free black marriage in the nineteenth century. Published in 2017. A book about African Americans and marriage in the 19th century, a winner of multiple awards. And a variety of other prizes. The list goes on and on. Let me mention her first book about women after the civil war. Another multiple prizewinning book. Dr. Hunter has agreed to come here today and talk with us specifically about the history of emancipation, the end of slavery during the civil war, a topic always on peoples agenda for teaching and discussion but particularly widely discussed earlier this summer the anniversary of juneteenth. That is what got us started thinking about inviting her to speak with us about that history, which is complicated, exciting, and always in need of clarification.
