After many years of anticipation, the work on the Standing Bear Park Pond Restoration project is beginning. “It’s been a long time coming,” said executive director, T.L Walker, “And there were times we weren’t sure if it would happen at all.” According to Standing Bear Foundation Chairman, Carl Renfro, “The pond was always intended to be one of the focal points of the park, and soon it will look even better than it did almost 27 years ago.” The arrowhead shaped pond with its small island was designed to represent the island in the Niobrara River (Nebraska) where Ponca Chief Standing Bear went to bury his son.
