Reporter Hurricane Matthew is still pummeling the florida coast with heavy winds and rain and so far, the state has been spared a direct hit. The Florida Governor is calling it a blessing. Hurricane matthew with its 120 mileanhour winds is lashing Floridas Atlantic coast. The storm is bringing heavy rain and flooding tides to the northern half of the state. This is still a really dangerous hurricane that the potential for storm surge, flooding, loss of life, and severe Property Damage continues to exist. Reporter more than half a Million People are without power after wind gusts approached 100 miles an hour overnight. Its really important that we get power restored quickly. Reporter matthews eye is just offshore and moving parallel to the coast. Winds could impact hundreds of miles of shoreline while the flooding rains spread well inland. Mike the eye is 50 miles offshore, but the bands are within five to 10 miles, and you can see the trend, it is drifting closer to the coast, so these heavy bands, which have the strongest winds with them are going to start working inland. Daytona beach may be the area where we see the strongest winds moving on the shore. There is the eye, well defined just off of melbourne letting up as you head dto this point. We saw some wind gusts over a hurricane strength this morning. Those will settle back to 6 one mile per hour winds. Melbourne the winds are picking up, and were continuing to see this area of Hurricane Force winds move its way along the coast, and eventually off the coast later this afternoon.
