20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the Caribou Crossing Trading Post is staging its own reenactment titled
20 Million Gallons Under the Mountains.
The popular Carcross-area travel and tourist spot is scrambling to deal with a meltwater flood of near-biblical proportions, judging by what owner Dale Colbran said Wednesday afternoon.
“We estimate that we’ve had 20 million gallons of water,” he said.
“It’s all from the snow pack on the mountain. We’ve never seen anything like it.”
It’s a parting gift from a particularly harsh winter for snow, Colbran said.
The area, which of course isn’t far from the White Pass, was hammered over the winter to an extent far beyond what Whitehorse and some other areas received in a near record-breaking year.
