Mitsubishi Corporation: Commercial Operations Commence at Methanol / Dimethyl Ether Plant in Trinidad and Tobago TOKYO, Jan 19, 2021 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC), Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering (MHIENG) have teamed up with the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC) and Massy Holdings (Massy), a joint venture in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited (CGCL), to launch commercial operations of a methanol and dimethyl ether (DME) plant. CGCL s Plant CGCL was established in March 2013, and it completed construction. Fueled primarily by natural gas sourced from Trinidad and Tobago, the plant has an annual production capacity of one million tons of methanol and 20,000 tons of DME. It began operating commercially in December 18, 2020.

CGCL's di-methyl ether plant starts commerical operations

Wednesday 13 January 2021 The Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited (CGCL) plant located on the Union Industrial Estate, La Brea. PHOTO BY JEFF MAYERS - The Caribbean Gas Chemical Ltd (CGCL) di-methyl ether (DME) plant in La Brea has started commercial operations. In a release Tuesday, CGCL said the plant was commissioned (handed over to operators) on December 18 and commercial operations began shortly after. “This landmark accomplishment confirms the company’s readiness to produce methanol, safely and reliably and maintain stable operations, having conducted the relevant testing to ensure the plant’s capability to function at its nameplate capacity of 1,000,000 tons per year,” the release said. DME is a diesel alternative and also used in the chemical industry as an aerosol propellant.
