Prime Minister Mia Mottley has suggested that establishing a direct air link between Africa and the Caribbean could be the answer to the problem of seasonal tourism business in Barbados and the rest of the region.She said on Thursday that perhaps the time had come for tourism-dependent countries within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to look to the African Union for year-round tourism business.She was speaking at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre during the opening ceremony of the inaugural AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF) which the Barbados Government is hosting jointly with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).Mottley, who opened her speech by reflecting on the historical ties between Africa and the Caribbean, suggested that tourism business from the continent could help solve the issue of low visitor numbers during the slow periods.
