reporter: tonight, nearly 48 hours after it started, the fire burning inside this cargo ship in port newark is only getting worse. the ship is now listing to one side. the fire is spreading to more decks, and officials cannot say when it will be out. the fire is going to burn for a couple more days probably. reporter: the fire is feasting on hundreds of used cars brought aboard for export and burning so hot firefighters cannot go inside the ship. the best situation is to cool the vessel from the perimeter using the fire boats and using hoses from onshore to try to keep the fire from spreading. reporter: but that s presenting a new problem. crews have doused the ship with so much water it s listing starboard. the issue of the ship listing is a growing concern. it is currently listing 3 degrees toward the dock, a 5 to 6-degree shift is the danger zone. reporter: and tonight, it s still not clear why firefighters who had no training in cargo ship fires were sent in when the
