In one local case, thieves have taken the food out of the mouths of hungry people. Lake Cares Food pantry, on Old U.S. Highway 441 in Mount Dora, was the victim of such a crime.
“We had a refrigeration truck in the parking lot. When it was started up it made a terrible noise,” said Executive Director Irene O’Malley. “It cost us a lot of money to replace it.

“They’re not cheap,” she said.
Later, thieves also targeted a food pantry van.
