UNIONS have called for urgent reform of the care sector in Scotland as it emerged one in ten are on zero hours contracts. A new analysis by the Scottish Trades Union Congress has raised concern that one in five are on non-permanent contracts and called for an end to what it described as low pay and exploitative working processes which have had fatal consequences through the Covid crisis. And it is concerned that the ten care providers in Scotland with the highest Covid death totals were all run for profit. The STUC raised its concerns while warning that care workers are more than twice as likely to die from Covid than health workers.
