does that 40% mean for donald trump what it would have meant for all of his predecessors? that s the question. one of the many questions raised by this. to break down what it could all mean, i m joined now by susan page, washington bureau chief at usa today . carek karine jean-pierre. and hugh hue wewitt. host of the hugh hewitt radio show. we laid out a blue-state version and red-state narrative of the trump numbers. does one of those ring a little more accurate to you? well, i think it s important that donald trump supporters have remained so loyal to him, very sturdy, his support among people who voted for him. it s got to be troubling to the white house that he failed to expand his support to anybody who didn t vote for him. this is a time of a presidency where his support should be higher, where it ought to be a time where people have been willing to take a look at him, ve him a chance, let him try to deliver, so i think it gets harder to do that as time goes
13 different congressional reviewct statutes, n exutive orders, laws, he s going to bring the workers home that want real jobs with wage increases, not the rhetoric of the obama years. i think he s fine right now. i d like to sew see more judges, more appointees and 350 navy ship detail but i think he s doing fine. karine, the voters hugh s talking about, wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania, obama 08, obama 12, trump 16 twhat that swung the election. the strategy for democrats has it been and addressed the concerns that sent those voters to the trump column or is it more relying on hey, we hope donald trump is going have a rough time here, not deliver on health care and just turn on him? where do the democrats fit in there strategically? here s the thing. i mean, donald trump is doing the work for democrats. i mean, he has had, as we talked about from the top of the show, the worst first 100 days we ve
the chuck schumer shutdown. senator schumer promised a shutdown a month ago if the border wall funding was there and it takes 60 votes in the senate to pass it. ted cruz got tagged with the shutdown in 2013. i think chuck schumer gets tagged with it in 2017 and the big difference is the white house decides what s essential. the white house decides what gets shut down. not going to be the washington monument by president obama did, not going to be mt. rushmore like president obama did. you re going to see a group of bureaucrats go home and not get paid when they get coming back. so i think there s an incentive for chuck schumer to drop his shutdown threat because it isn t that manhattan beltway media is convinced trump s going to get blamed for the shutdown. i don t think so in trump land. they re going to blame chuck schumer. karine, big picture question, 100 day, symbolic milestone, i wonder from democrats stand poibt, point, do can you think there s a lesson, do you think they l

that s a very important deal. he won big with neil gorsuch. he has not moved the repeal and replacement of obamacare but going to try to resuscitate that. most importantly, he changed america s posture in the world. president obama was known for the red line and the jvs and leading from behind. that s not what president trump snoen f is known for. known for the m.o.a.b., and the carrier group all the north korean peninsula. quite a change. i think he likes those numbers. 43%/40%. karine, you look at the 43%/40% finding if the election were held again, i wond r if that gives you a sense of deja vu, a frashbalashback. democrats thought trump ran a terrible campaign, look at the terrible numbers, he s going to rus lose. he wins. is there a dynamic from before the election that maybe hasn t changed? but steve, here s the problem here. the problem is that his support is small, but it s also
