School for the Talented and Gifted is the highest-ranked Texas school on the list, earning a spot at No. 13 (slightly down from No. 6 last year). It’s followed closely by
The Science and Engineering Magnet School comes in at No. 39 overall this year, and is also ranked No. 3 nationally among schools that specialize in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). It is the only Texas school to earn a top five ranking in a special category.

On Monday, U.S. News & World Report released its annual ranking of the best public high schools in the country.
Northside ISD s Health Careers High School was ranked as the top school in San Antonio and placed 96 overall nationally. It was also the only local school to place in the top 10 in the state.
Health Careers High School jumped from No. 3 on the list in 2020 to the top spot. Basis San Antonio-Shavano Campus, which was No. 1 last year, dropped to No. 2.
There were two newcomers to the top 10 in 2021 IDEA Carver College Prep and San Antonio ISD s Advanced Learning Academy.
