morning reviewing a stack of documents with career agents and prosecutors in which they have determined it s appropriate to seek those orders. it would be time consuming and require a significant commitment of resources and a showing of probable cause. as you know, probable cause showing that is required under the constitution in circumstances in which privacy interests of americans are at stake and its required by the fourth amendment, that s a relatively higher threshold than we require for foreign intelligence information. we think it s important that we not apply that fourth amendment constitutional standard to foreigners who are not in the united states. thank you. admiral rogers, this is to you. there is a lot of news reporting, much of it inaccurate that characterizes 702 of a means of targeting u.s. persons. we know that targeting u.s. persons is prohibited. as it as is what is termed
the last couple days mccabe testified there remains strong confidence among the agents at the fbi. we all had a very rare admission, i don t think we ever heard this publicly before from a senior fbi official, that after director comey made the decision not to recommend charges for hillary clinton and her team for the mishandling of classified information, there was a lot of anger and frustration among the career agents involved, maria. maria: we ll be following that. want to bring in pete hexter. mr. chairman, thank you. your reaction to this? i ll tell you, there s so many angles to come at this. i think they ve covered them all. the bottom line is we re going to have a few fbi director. the president takes responsibility for the decision to fire director comey. not a whole lot more there. the investigations are going forward. maria: the president could fire any director any time for
this federal investigation that has gone on, let s have it. it now. i have another question for mr. schumer. sean, have you noticed they all use the same phrases? we can t trust the justice department to investigate. they can t even name the fbi agents involved in this investigation. i am sure they are career agents that will do their job regardless of who the fbi director is. but mr. schumer lexi s independent special prosecutors. let me ask you something, do you support and independent special prosecutor for hillary clinton and her multiple violations of the espionage act? for the obama administration surveillance and unmasking of trump transition team members and god knows who else? the israeli ambassador was surveilled? jewish leaders and to his groups were surveilled? how about an independent investigation of that. i have another one, mr. schumer.
is if you are targeting the russia investigation, a name we ve heard here already, dana bente, who has a spectacular reputation in the law enforcement in the community in the department of justice, who has been given extraordinary responsibilities by president trump in these first few months of his administration, and who headed the national security division, which is obviously a point of focus, and that appointment was just named as well, those would be the people where you would see so you don t think the firing of comey has any impact on a russia investigation? no. of course not. absolutely not. evan perez. i ve got to say i think whether or not it s going to affect the investigation, there s career people, there s career agents at fbi, there are career people at the justice department that are actually running this investigation. right. the problem that is created by what happened tonight is the perception. and perception matters. that is not you re the first
acting director andy mccabe is a consummate professional with a great represent owtation, and he is backed up by dave bowdich. these are both career agents who have the same integrity and bravery as director comby. and president trump s firing letter to comey, he said that comey informed him on three separate occasions that he wasn t under investigation. that seems like an odd thing for an fbi director to tell anybody given that you wouldn t know where the investigation would lead. are you skeptical of that? i was not privy to any of those conversations, and i must say that would seem out of character for the director to have done that. do you agree, it stounds like you i don t, but i want to make sure i understand this. do you understand with the rosenstein conclusion that comey made grievous mistakes during the clinton investigation? that was a complete and
