New study names Windsor as fourth happiest place in the country for older people A new study has found that Windsor is the fourth happiest place in the UK to live if you are over 65. The study was carried out by care home comparison site Care Sourcer, using the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - the UK s largest independent producer of official statistics whose findings are recognised nationally. It found Windsor was beaten only by Stornaway and Kirkwall in Scotland and by Bournemouth as the happiest places for older people to live. Care Sourcer s study was carried out after one in three over-65s were reported as feeling lonelier than ever in the wake of the pandemic.
Winter’s hard enough as it is, but with a new national lockdown there are fears of a ‘loneliness epidemic’ spreading within communities. According to recent data from Care Sourcer, over-65s in the UK are feeling more socially isolated than ever during COVID-19. Whilst people aged between 18 and 24 were most likely to experience loneliness in the initial lockdown, it was older people who had to abide by the most stringent distancing measures due to their susceptibility to the virus. Older people have taken the brunt of the coronavirus measures, leading to a sharp increase in loneliness and social isolation, with one in three reporting feeling lonelier in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
