Local healthcare systems grapple with COVID s impact on finances, staff and more

While the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines has provided for many a light at the end of a long tunnel, challenges may remain for quite some time for the Yolo County healthcare providers charged with delivering those vaccines. Local healthcare systems, which will continue to focus on the virus and vaccinations for months to come, are also coping with decreased revenue, staff burnout and patients who delayed preventive care over the last year, leading in some cases to acute conditions. During a COVID-19 community summit hosted by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, representatives of local healthcare systems along with a variety of other sectors provided an update on the challenges they are dealing with even as the end of the pandemic may be in sight.

Revamped CommuniCare opening Monday

Revamped CommuniCare opening Monday Support Local Journalism On Monday, Feb. 1, CommuniCare Health Centers will reopen an expanded Davis Community Clinic following a 10-month closure. CommuniCare Health Centers has been serving the people of Yolo County and the city of Davis for nearly 50 years, starting as the Davis Free Clinic in 1972. The Davis site moved several times over those years until it ultimately landed on the Sutter Davis Hospital campus. The renovation will allow CommuniCare to expand access and was being partially supported by grant funding from the Federal Bureau of Primary Health Care, Health Resources & Services Administration, as well as additional support from the Friends of CommuniCare, and other community partners.

Program to provide health services to Woodland Community College students on site Students at Woodland Community College will have access to on-site health services under a new partnership announced by the county on Monday. CommuniCare Health Centers will provide physical and behavioral healthcare as well as related social services “in a client-centered and culturally and linguistically competent manner,” the announcement stated. The program is being paid for with a grant of up to $150,000 per year from the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency and $60,000 a year from the Yuba Community College District. “Yolo County’s partnership with Woodland Community College on student health marks an important step forward in the continuing evolution of the college and in expanding vital services to students,” said Yolo County Supervisor Gary Sandy of Woodland.
