Las Vegas Summer Tournament Poker Scene Heating Up Without WSOP

The Las Vegas poker scene is thriving this summer despite the absence of a World Series of Poker, which was moved to the fall due to continued COVID-19 protocols. With massive events at Wynn and Venetian underway or on the horizon, the poker industry in town is booming almost like a normal summer.

Over at Venetian, the DeepStack Championship Series, a Las Vegas summer staple, the Mid-States Poker Tour already hosted two events this month. Harlen Miller, a 63-year-old from North Dakota, shipped the first one (June 2-7), beating out an enormous field of 2,790 runners to win the $1,100 buy-in event for $367,801.

Resorts World, Las Vegas’ Newest Casino, Opens 30-Table Poker Room (Pictures)

At long last, Resorts World opened to the public Thursday night, a mega resort featuring the newest Las Vegas poker room. The spacious card room hosts 30 tables, including a high roller room, all inside a luxurious casino that is 13 years in the making.

On Nov. 1, 2006, the iconic Stardust Casino, which opened in 1958, on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip was demolished, a sad day for the casino’s many loyal customers. In 2007, Boyd Gaming began construction of its Echelon Place project on the Stardust grounds, but that plan was halted in 2008 due to the tough economic times.
