Holding a competition for young writers to send in their stories, with her book Bright Star, artist Louise Poole, of Hinstock
Louise Poole, who lives in Hinstock, near Market Drayton, was inspired to create her first children’s book, Bright Star, after a visiting Shropshire’s Carding Mill Valley and Long Mynd.
There she was treated to the wonderful sight of wild horses atop the hill and was inspired to write after her 12 year-old daughter asked: ‘When was the first wild pony tamed?’
Louise then came up with the idea for her book – a girl from Kazakhstan who tamed horses.

Police said they had handed out two fines while patrolling this morning
The South Shropshire Safer Neighbourhood Team said the fines had been handed out while they were on patrol in Church Stretton.
Carding Mill Valley has proved popular with visitors throughout lockdown – despite the area being who are not considered local being banned from travelling to the area.
The police team said that they had issued the fines this morning.
A post from the South Shrops Cops Twitter account said: Two Covid fines already issued in Stretton this morning.

He’s as pleasant in person as he is on air. So when Eric Smith picks up the phone for a half-hour chat, he starts with a joke. Of course he does. He’s been cracking them in Shropshire for 26 years, why change the habit of a lifetime.
