Religious leaders under the KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council gathered on Thursday to express solidarity with those affected by xenophobic attacks in Durban in recent months.
The event in Medwood Gardens, opened by Cardinal Wilfrid Napier, was attended by about 100 people, GroundUp reported.

The Diakonia Council of Churches paid tribute to health workers by hosting on open-air Good Friday service at Durban s beachfront on Friday morning.
Addington Hospital served as the backdrop for the service attended by a limited number of worshippers including KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala and Catholic Archbishop of Durban Cardinal Wilfrid Napier. The service was livestreamed to the public.
Napier said: “Last year we were not able to gather as a community, we had to be in our homes and do what we had to do.

A small gathering of 40 or so invited church, government, civic leaders and health care workers gathered in front of Addington Hospital as the sun rose on Good Friday to honour Health Care Workers in the absence of the traditional annual public Diakonia Council of Churches Good Friday Service and Procession due to Covid restrictions.
The sunrise Good Friday service and procession of the cross through the streets of the city has been a long held tradition in Durban attending by hundreds of people. However, the advent of Covid-19 has meant that the event had to be reduced in size to comply with lockdown regulations that limit the number of people who may attend public gatherings.
