The COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to cripple the economy in the Ohio Valley and President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats are pursuing his plan for economic recovery.
Biden’s economic priorities include raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, forgiving student loan debt, and undoing some Trump-era tax cuts. But Biden’s immediate focus is on his “American Rescue Plan” for economic recovery and ending the pandemic.
“The crisis of deep human suffering is in plain sight,” Biden said while giving an address about the plan. “We have to act, and we have to act now.”

CHARLESTON Despite being left on the cutting room floor during efforts two years ago to pass a sweeping education overhaul, some lawmakers and education reform advocates want to take another look at education savings accounts.
A coalition of Republican lawmakers, conservative public policy groups, and advocates for choice in educational options held a virtual press conference Tuesday calling for passage of legislation creating the Hope Scholarship.
“Right now, our activists across the state are working to strongly encourage lawmakers to support the creation of education savings accounts in the state,” said Jason Huffman, the state director for the West Virginia chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative grassroots advocacy organization.

West Virginia’s businesses need support during these difficult economic times, rather than new mandates from Washington, DC. Thank you for taking a strong stand against a federal $15 minimum wage.
A national $15 minimum wage and tipped wage would be devastating for West Virginia’s diners, retailers, and other small businesses not to mention their employees. Morgantown is not Manhattan, and Charleston is not Chicago. The minimum wages in these cities should not be the same, either.
West Virginia needs sensible, bipartisan solutions from Congress not one-size-fits-all laws that could hurt the people they are intended to help.
