GPPL column: Novels written in verse

Try refreshing your browser. I am partial to novels written in verse. There is a lot of story packed into few words and it feels like only the best words are used and the extra fluff is left out.  It seems to create much more vivid imagery. A new novel in verse to the GPPL Children’s Library shelves is May B. by Caroline Starr Rose.  It is an historical fiction story about 12-year-old Mavis Elizabeth Betterly- May Betts- May B. May’s parents send her off to help out a newly married couple and to improve their own finances.  She will help the young bride adapt to Kansas prairie life in a sod cabin and keep her company in exchange for a fee.  But the bride runs away, the husband sets chase, neither return and May is abandoned fifteen miles from home. With no idea of where home is on the endless prairie, May must fend for herself until her father returns for her at Christmas.
