The Police Department believes that speed was a factor. Use some caution on the road ways today. Heres what is going on, University Parkway is completely blocked between old bradenton over to desoto. So this is actually just west of u. S. 301 when university curves down to the south. Its also just south of the airport. This is the airport. So its at that tail southern end of the sarasota airport. So university is completely blocked there. Because of where its blocked also part of desoto road is blocked there as well. Youre alternate is down here at myrtle street. Not exactly an easy alternate. You have the airport to the north, myrtle street is an alternate to the south. You shouldnt be able to use desoto road. Its a triple fatal. Its quite unusual to hear that. Sad news. We have a fourth person thats at the hospital. So hopeful

Were told that a car was traveling westbound on University Parkway, preliminary investigation shows that it was going very fast she said. Thats when it slammed into a tree. Again, three dead on scene, one taken to sarasota memorial hospital. We just spoke to that Police Spokeswoman a few moments ago and heres what she told us. When our officers arrived they do believe due to the severity of the crash that speed was a factor. The vehicle actually split in half after it had impact with the tree. So thats why our officers do believe that speed was a factor. At this time its unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. Reporter again, the investigation in this case is in full swing. We have no information at this point on identities or ages of the three dead and the one injured.
