Vehicle registrations in India reached 2,127,653 units last month, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA). Two-wheeler sales grew by 15%, driven by the rural market, while passenger vehicle sales reached an all-time high. However, high inventory levels and potential caution from consumers due to upcoming elections could pose challenges for auto dealers.
In October, year-on-year auto sales in India declined by 8% due to the Shraddh period in the first half of the month. However, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) pointed out that this decline should not be a cause for concern, as sales increased by 13% from the previous month. Three-wheeler sales also reached a new high.
Several automakers in India, including Kia, Mahindra, Hyundai, and Honda, have raised prices on popular models such as the Kia Seltos, Mahindra XUV700, Honda City, and Hyundai Venue due to strong demand and rising input costs. The price increases range from ₹7,900 to ₹81,000. Some carmakers cited higher input costs, while others mentioned product enhancements and the introduction of new features as reasons for the price hikes.
