[splash!] shepard: an attack on aid werksz in afghanistan triggered a gun battle that went on for hours. it happened in kabul s fansest neighborhood they describe it. car bomber blasted the gate of an italian organization s compound and then taliban attackers stormed the place with grenade launchers then the gun battle started. afghan police say they took cover and shot it out with the the enemy fighters for hours. security forces say they finally raided the compound and ended the standoff. they say two guards and all six attackers died. all the workers made it out alive. a massive fire generates

. welcome back. 50 minutes past the hour. breaking news from north carolina, firefighters in lincoln county are trying to recover the bodies of two young children trapped after a dirt wall collapsed around them. after hours of digging, authorities say there s just no way the children, a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, who are cousins, could have survived that the children were playing in the basement of house that s now under construction when the dirt wall gave out. the body of anne smedinghoff is coming home from afghanistan today. the young american diplomat from chicago was killed saturday along with four other americans by a suspected car bomber. smedinghoff was bringing books to afghan school children when t incident occurred. two boaters are missing on the mississippi after some windy
