Life is too short to read books we don’t love! I used to feel committed. If I started a book, either because of loyalty to the author or the good money I paid for it, I slogged through until the end. Nowadays, I only give a book three chapters. If I’m not hooked, I go to another. We have too many wonderful options!

Another Veteran I met at the Honor Café event was Captain Jim Lowe. He was born January 7, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve program in Milwaukee as a Seaman Recruit in 1961 and attained the rate of QM-3 (SS) and qualified in submarines while assigned to SUBDIV 9-227 as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Upon graduation in 1964, he entered OCS at Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned as an Ensign, USNR on December, 1964. Captain Lowe’s first duty assignment was to the Naval Weapons Laboratory, Dahlgren, Virginia. He qualified as a Weapons Test and Evaluations Officer. In June, 1968, he was assigned to the USS Providence (CLG-6), Seventh Fleet Flagship, as a First Lieutenant and participated in WestPac/Vietnam operations as well as First Fleet Flagship operations. He was released from active duty in June of 1970. From this time until 1994, he continues his service in the

During World War II, history’s greatest conflict, theretired Edwards Air Force Base engineer survived 35 bombing missions over Nazi Germany, serving as a command pilot on a B-17 Flying Fortress dubbed “Miss Behavin’.”
On June 16, he survived another distinction and honor, being inducted as an honorary member of the Patriot Guard Riders at the Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson dealership.
“I cannot tell you how pleased I am to be with you, and that comes from the heart,” PGR Ride Captain Jim “Kick Stand” Jacobs, an Army veteran, said.
