Captain Francis Spencer of Hammertons Ferry sadly passed away on November 29, aged 74, after battling cancer. Half of the father-son team behind the ferry service, Francis was well known for his upbeat personality, kindness and consideration. His funeral procession passed down Church Street on Tuesday, January 5 between 9.15-9.30am. Onlookers lined the streets towards St Mary’s church to pay their respects. The funeral was only attended by the family, however, the hearse stopped outside the church where the rites were read out. Thames water, instead of holy water, was used for the blessing. In a tweet the family thanked the “wonderful Richmond and Twickenham community”. They said:
