The City of Rehoboth Beach must take bold steps to implement a comprehensive plan to stop the declining quality of life for residents, visitors and business owners alike throughout the city. For background purposes, I have owned and operated Penny Lane Mall for over 25 years which is located at 42 Rehoboth Ave. in the first block next to Grotto Pizza. I have served as a past president of the downtown Rehoboth Beach Main Street organization and as a former Rehoboth Beach lifeguard under Captain Buckson, winning several national championships representing the city.
This background provides a unique understanding of beach/boardwalk safety, business and property ownership. As a Rehoboth Beach Patrol guard and medic since 2006, I express my sincere thanks and congratulations to retiring Captain Kent Buckson for his service and dedication to the Beach Patrol. Captain Buckson’s 30 years of experience as a guard and captain provided the city and all beachgoers with an extraordinary level of ocean rescue safety and professionalism.
Kent was an excellent leader and mentor to over 65 guards, medics and staff persons each summer during his 21 years as captain of the patrol. He was a skilled “land line” competitor and participated in the RBP teams that won United States Lifeguard Association National Championships in 2005, 2008 and 2010. Captain Buckson restored and upheld the Beach Patrol’s rich tradition of lifesaving and ocean rescue teamwork. On behalf of the guards, medics and staff who served on the Beach Patrol with Captain Buckson, I respectfully urge the city commissioners to dedicate a plaqu
