“Cascais wants to be at the forefront of aviation training,” stated Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of Cascais, Portugal. And this week, the municipality west of Lisbon certainly is the centre of the training universe as about a thousand experts from throughout Europe and the world gather for the 21st European Airline Training Symposium (EATS).
For me, the Heads of Training (HoT) meetings which precede the European Aviation Training Symposium (EATS) are an annual sanity check. The HoT meetings – one for pilots, one for cabin crew – feature ‘Chatham House’ rules, which basically means ‘What happens in Cascais, stays in Cascais.’
In a competitive industry, it is our training teams that help raise the safety bar for all, and after an unprecedented shutdown we face multiple challenges in enabling the return of our industry to full operations. EATS typically attracts 900 attendees from more than 50 countries – all focused on best training practices. EATS 2023 is Europe’s largest aviation training event, designed by and for aviation professionals.
