longtime capitola residents say the wharf is so important as an iconic symbol but also as an attraction bringing visitors to the town s businesses. so sad. i mean really. the wharf is you know, that s so devastating. it will be closed down for a while for sure. will it seem pretty weird? it is really strange. we have lots of friends that own these restaurants here, and it s sad to see that their livelihood is getting washed away. okay. this is the worst. it s it s flooding almost up to the window here where we re standing. reporter: it s not just the wharf washing away. this is home video of sarah froy just as she and her husband and neighbors were ordered to evacuate their homes along socal creek this morning. still, many came back to rescue what they could from their flooded homes even though the risk was still there, as we found out as we talked to sarah on her front lawn. the waves are massive. they re taking out all of the flood guards, all of the boards,
