While Pennsylvanians and its business community struggled to make ends meet last year, the state’s legislative branch closed the books on its 2019-20 fiscal year sitting atop a reserve of $200 million in its combined reserve accounts, according to an audit released on Thursday.
This annual review of legislative spending reflects an increase of $27.8 million from the prior year after its estimated commitments were paid. It also is more than double the amount held in reserve just three years before and the highest it’s been since at least 2013.
