he infamously pressured former fbi director, james comey, to pledge loyalty to him. trump s obsession to who was loyal are disloyal as a fixture of his four years in office. it dominate the behavior of a lot of people who work for him. it produced a never-ending stream of headlines like the. the second thing to know is, as much as donald trump demands loyalty from other people, people who work for him, people around, him he gives it to you, basically, no. one asked vice former vice president, mike pence. three years of scandal, pence, literally and figuratively, stood behind trump. no matter what he said or did. in return for all of those years of steadfast servitude, loyalty, and standing, donald trump watched and did absolutely nothing when the january 6th mob stormed the capitol chanting, hang mike pence. trump even let the people who actually did faithfully carry out his scheme hang out to dry. apparently untrue form, donald trump is not paying his bills. stiffing the lawyers that
important than any one man s career. and that s true of me. and that s true of the president, former president of the united states. so we re going to stand on the facts. we re going to stand by what happened that day, and the stand we took. and trust ourselves to the judgment of republican voters. and ultimately, the american people. at the indianapolis state fair, we have not heard mike pence quite like that before with such a strong defense of his actions on january 6th. and calling some of the people who surrounded donald trump on that day crack pot lawyers. it comes, of course, after special counsel s indictment gives us new insights into the former president s pressure campaign to have pence overturn the election results. it was a campaign that ended on january 6 with a mob at the capitol chanting hang mike pence. and rioters getting within 40 feet of the vice president as his security team rushed him away. joining me here, nbc s dasha
watch my show, it s stupid. what else came in? worth noting that pence only testified because he was forced to. he could have done the right thing and volunteered but that s not the go this relates to my conversation with maggie haberman and the former vice president testified before a grand jury. the maga base wasn t watching. maybe today was the day he vented and laid it all out. how could it sit well with him that a mob was within 30 feet of him at the capitol chanting for his execution, and he didn t want to testify to the congressional committee? it never made sense. but i bet today was difference. what else? i like this part of the show. i think he wanted to speak up all along but felt the maga people would trash him for it. politically he played it safe. wonder what he said. respectfully to mike pence, i think he s fooling himself thinking he can have it both ways because the maga base controls the nomination process.
steven miller, trump s white house senior adviser and speech writer testified today before a federal grand jury in the january 6th investigation, he is now the first known witness to testify since the justice department appointed special counsel. you broke this story. tell us more. steven miller has always been a very important and close adviser to donald trump in the white house. at the end of the presidency, after the election, and up to and including on january 6th, he was his speech writer. and so what miller would be able to talk to the grand jury about, what we know he s already talked to the separate house investigation about is how trump s speech came about on january 6th to his supporters, the crowd that eventually rioted at the capitol chanting hang mike pence. and one of the things that we know from public reporting from the house select committee previously is that miller talked to trump about what he was going to say about pence, it appears
