Respite came the way of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Saturday, as the Federal High Court in Abuja, dismissed the certificate forgery case the All Progressives Congress, APC, and one of its members, Mr. Williams Edobor, instituted against him.
The court, in a judgment that was delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, held that the Plaintiffs, failed to by way of credible evidence, discharge the burden of proof placed on them by the law.
Justice Mohammed said there was no iota of evidence before the court to establish that Obaseki forged either his O’level certificate or the degree certificate that was awarded to him in 1979 by the University of Ibadan.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, fixed Saturday to deliver judgement on the certificate forgery case the All Progressives Congress, APC, and one its members, Mr. Williams Edobor, instituted against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed okayed the matter for judgement after all the parties adopted their final briefs of argument.
While adopting his final written address, Obaseki, through his team of lawyers led by Chief Ken Mozia, SAN, urged the court to dismiss the suit, insisting that the Plaintiffs, failed to prove their allegation that he submitted forged credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

An Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, University of Lagos, Emmanuel Balogun, on Wednesday, appeared as a witness in the certificate forgery case of the All Progressives Congress, APC, instituted against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.
Prof Balogun who appeared as the third principal witness, PW-3, told the court that he has never set eyes on Obaseki’s original certificate.
He said he could therefore not comment on whether it was forged or not.
The witness went ahead and tendered the original copy of his own degree certificate in Agricultural Economics, which was awarded to him on July 6, 1979, by the University of Ibadan.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Tuesday, tendered in evidence before the Federal High Court in Abuja, the nomination form Governor Godwin Obaseki filled and submitted for the purpose of the governorship election that held in Edo State on September 19.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed admitted and marked the document known as Form EC9, along with other attachments that accompanied it, as Exhibit PL-2.
He dismissed objection the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, raised to query the admissibility of the document which INEC was summoned to produce before the court in the forgery case the All Progressives Congress, APC, instituted against Obaseki.
