US stimulus hopes keep equities aloft

Recap: Global stocks and emerging markets hovered near record highs as investors bet on more US pandemic relief spending, despite signs of fresh US-China tension, while European stocks fell with retail and energy shares posting losses.
The SET index moved in a range of 1,503.19 and 1,529.49 points before ending a holiday-shortened week at 1,508.35 on Thursday, up 0.8% from the previous week, in daily turnover averaging 92.12 billion baht.
Foreign investors were net buyers of 3.11 billion baht. Brokerage firms bought 2.82 billion, while retail investors purchased 1.42 billion baht. Institutional investors were net sellers of 7.35 billion baht worth of shares.

Recap: Most Asian markets advanced yesterday on optimism about US President-elect Joe Biden s much-anticipated $1.9-trillion fiscal stimulus plan, even as Wall Street retreated. European stocks dropped as investors took profits after solid gains. Tokyo also fell as investors locked in gains after the Nikkei rose for five straight trading days to a fresh 30-year high.
The SET index moved in a range of 1,513.48 and 1,561.66 points this week before closing yesterday at 1,519.13, down 1.1% from the previous week, in turnover averaging 97.86 billion baht daily.
Retail investors were net buyers of 8.4 billion baht, foreign investors purchased 2.08 billion and brokers bought 666.03 million baht worth of shares. Institutional investors were net sellers of 11.14 billion baht.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is considering implementing both short- and long-term measures to stabilise the market after the sudden surge of Delta Electronics (DELTA) free-float shares disrupted the SET Index on Monday, says a market analyst who requested anonymity. The market must be adaptive to changes, including any unprecedented issues that rarely occurred in the past, the source said.
Delta s shares have soared by over 280% since November, up from about 180 to 838 baht, an all-time high, on Monday. This movement shocked analysts as the price was more than double all research houses fundamental projections.

Local investors were net buyers of 7.74 billion baht and foreign investors bought 2.89 billion in shares. Institutional investors were net sellers of 8.12 billion baht and brokerages offloaded 2.51 billion baht in shares.
