it s giving them every reason to open their mouths as wide as they can. the saudis came out and said after the jerusalem move the palestinians will have to accept a deal. i think if it wasn t for trump they wouldn t have said that. trump went to saudi arabia first and then israel. they are saying i ll support you because the palestinians aren t a priority for any of the countries in the region right now that are with the united states. not the jordanians, not egyptians. saudis are much closer to israel. this is so far from a top priority for anyone there except the palestinians. so as a consequence we have 25 dead. in two days we are not talking about it. if it is not such a priority for the rest of the world then as we look at this is this ultimately going to be a win for president trump meaning he is starting to move the conversation in a different direction with this move? it s very difficult to stomach talk of a win in the

looking at today with the u.s. embassy opening. i think it was a nonstrategic move by which trump is supposed to be the master of the art of the deal. it is rare to make a major concession to one side without getting something from the other. this has been a prize. 86 countries recognize israel. this is a very big gift to israel. you would normally imagine that if it were part of a larger strategic plan you would ask the israelis to do a certain number of things, settlement freezes, whatever it is. instead it has been a pretty lop sighed thing. the reason the other countries haven t moved embassies is jerusalem is the capital of israel. i have no quarrel with that politically on the ground or morally. the reason the countries haven t done it is because through palestinian claims. they claim it as their capital. a very large number of palestinian arabs live there.
