BOSTON Representative Antonio Cabral secured some significant funding for New Bedford as the House unanimously passed its proposed $47.72 billion FY2022 budget on Thursday, and also saw the House unanimously pass his proposal to require the state’s sheriffs to report the finances of their agreements with ICE.
The language passed by the House requires the state’s county sheriffs and the Department of Corrections to report the costs, reimbursements, and expenses associated with their agreements with US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) every quarter beginning in October 2021.
“I have been fighting this fight because I believe deputizing prison officials to act as federal immigration agents is bad public policy,” Rep. Massachusetts tourism, cultural groups could see funding boost from Massachusetts House $47.7 billion budget for fiscal 2022

From Berkshire theater programs to economic development in the North Quabbin region, Massachusetts House lawmakers approved millions more in tourism spending in the fiscal 2022 budget in hopes of revitalizing the sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The House unanimously approved a $47.7 billion budget around 2:30 a.m. Thursday after hours of negotiations, boosting spending for economic development, mental health services and education.
“This budget meets the needs of our residents who have endured an unprecedented level of health and economic challenges over the past year,” Speaker Ron Mariano, a Quincy Democrat, said in a statement after the vote early Thursday.

It kind of showed to us that our work does revitalize neighborhoods, but there s not a good understanding of the program and what it does, Bernert said. We need to do better community outreach. maybe we haven’t been doing enough of that because we’re too busy restoring the properties, but that s no excuse.
