Former Kotzebue Mayor to head NPS Native Relations Program

Former Kotzebue Mayor to head NPS Native Relations Program January 21st |     Former Mayor of Kotzebue, Maija Katak Lukin, has been selected as the Native Relations Program manager for Region 11, encompassing all National Park lands in Alaska. Lukin begins her new position March 1, according to a Jan. 15 press release from the National Park Service. Currently, Lukin serves as region 11 s superintendent for Western Arctic National Parklands, where she manages three National Park Service conservation units in Northwest Alaska, including Noatak National Preserve, Kobuk Valley National Park, and Cape Krusenstern National Monument. Throughout the 9 million acres of parklands, Lukin manages operations, subsistence, tribal consultation, resource stewardship, budget and finance, information technology, human resources, acquisition, contracting, training and recruitment.
