Academy midfielder Josh Carson says he hadn’t expected to be called up to the Northern Ireland U21 squad having only broken into the U19 squad this season. Carson and Town team-mate Caolan Lavery are in the party taking on Scotland at Partick Thistle’s Firhill on Wednesday.
On-loan Blues Josh Yorwerth and Cameron Stewart helped their temporary clubs to victories this afternoon, while U21s coach Mark Kennedy was spotted taking in a League Two game.
Striker Caolan Lavery’s time at Town looks to be up after his academy scholarship ended with no agreement regarding his professional contract having been reached. The Northern Ireland U21 international’s agent was due to talk to manager Paul Jewell last Friday but the Blues boss says he’s still waiting for the call.
Town boss Mick McCarthy says it’s no surprise to him that the Blues will face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday with the Blades, promoted from League One as champions last season, third in the Championship.
