Scorpion Announces Plans to Move Headquarters

Internet marketing firm Scorpion made multiple company announcements Wednesday, including plans to open a new headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.
While Corey Quinn, chief marketing officer at Scorpion, confirmed the move, he said it would not affect operations at the company’s Valencia office.
“We’re very still very committed to the Santa Clarita area,” Quinn said, noting that Scorpion is one of the Santa Clarita Valley’s largest employers, with more than 600 employees based locally. “We’re very proud of our office location in Valencia, and it will definitely still continue to be a place where we’ll be hiring … (and) we wil
College of the Canyons has been ranked nationally No. 18 in The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine for enrolling the largest number of Hispanic students.
The magazine rankings for the Top 25 Community Colleges for Hispanics were based from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) data for community colleges with the highest number of Hispanic students enrolled.
According to the data, the college had a Hispanic population of 15,703 students, totaling 45 percent of the total student enrollment, which was 35,018 in spring 2019.
Current numbers through the end of the 2019-20 school year show the college’s current Hispanic population closer to 47 percent.
The college district received the best rating possible in an independent audit of its general obligation bond expenditures.
The Santa Clarita Community College District’s Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee accepted the audit results, which showed that for the 13th year in a row, the district has properly accounted for all bond expenditures and expended them in accordance with the projects approved by voters in Measure E ballot measure.
Eide Bailly LLP conducted both the financial and performance audit, covering the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2020 and issued the District an unmodified opinion – the best rating possible – noting no adjustments, audit findings, questioned costs or instances of bond noncompliance.
The Child and Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program is set to host its fourth annual “Night of Expression” art exhibit on Saturday, Feb. 27, in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
The event will showcase artwork and poetry from local students as they stand in solidarity with their peers against dating violence and advocate for healthy relationships.
Residents are encouraged to tune in for an evening of awareness, art, poetry, empowerment and more. The exhibit will stream live at 7:00 p.m. on the Child and Family Center’s YouTube page.
This event is open to the whole community and for all ages.
The Valley Industry Association will welcome College of the Canyons Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook as the keynote speaker for the March VIA Virtual Series taking place Tuesday, March 16, from 11:00 a.m to 12:15 p.m.
